About 50 students in grades 9-10 from various districts of Mogilev region participated in a regional seminar-practicum «One Day with the Ministry of Emergency Situations.» The event took place at the Center for Safety and Life and Fire Rescue Unit No. 2 in Mogilev. Participants studied safety theory and practiced rescue techniques.
Training program
The program included two stages. First, students visited the Center for Safety and Life. They used modern simulators to practice actions during emergencies. They also toured the museum of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, which displays the history of the fire service in the region.
First Secretary of the Mogilev Regional Committee of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union Oleg Boyko said the event is part of a broader effort in patriotic education. «About 50 young people who connect their future professional activity with serving the country, including in the Ministry of Emergency Situations and internal affairs, took part,» Boyko said. «Practical classes allow participants to broaden their horizons, understand the specifics of the rescuer profession, and make an informed choice when applying to educational institutions. The youth union prioritizes this direction and plans further cooperation with OSVOD and DOSAAF for comprehensive youth development.»
Practical exercises and impressions
After the theoretical part, participants went to fire rescue unit No. 2. There they tried speed-donning of firefighting gear, performed descents from a training tower, and learned about technology for extricating victims from traffic accidents. Each exercise was accompanied by comments from emergency workers who shared real cases and answered questions.
Student Nikita Kovalenko from Buinichi secondary school shared his impressions: «This is a great opportunity to learn more about the fire service and its specialization. You can encounter various household situations and learn how to help yourself and loved ones.»
Alena Suvorova, a student from Kadino secondary school, said stereotypes about «non-female» work in the Ministry of Emergency Situations do not deter her. She draws inspiration from female employees who work as communication operators and assist victims. «The Ministry of Emergency Situations is a big path requiring both physical strength and moral preparation,» Suvorova said. «You need to be strong to cope with various loads psychologically and physically.»
The day concluded with an exhibition of rescue equipment. The event was organized by the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Belarusian Republican Youth Union.
